Question by : What is the difference between an attorney and a lawyer?
I need to know if there is even a difference at all between the two because I need to write about choosing an attorney from California, but if I’ve found a good website about lawyers in California. Could I use this information for what I have to write about, or is there a difference between lawyers and attorneys so I shouldn’t use the information on that site? Thanks.

They are synonymous.
Attorney’s and Lawyers are the same in a way. Technically Attorney’s are what would be called the defense and a Lawyer is someone who’s field of influence is in the law.(Doesn’t state if your a judge, attorney or prosecutor.)
In the USA there is no difference between a lawyer and an attorney.
In other countries there is a marked difference, which may lead to some confusion.
No difference, just different terms to describe the same profession. Kindof like Doctor and Physician, different words, same thing.
They are the same, but attorney has more active prestige than lawyer. People can study to be a lawyer, but practicing they are an attorney. If you had a law degree and passed the bar, but didn’t practice, you could be considered a lawyer, counselor or law professor etc. which could sum as a lawyer.
Currently, there are really no distinctions between an attorney and a lawyer. Both have the ability to represent a client before a court of law, both have the ability to issue legal advice, both are required to have studied law and pass the bar exam prior to practicing. When you get technical about the actual definitions of the two words there are distinct differences. A lawyer is a person who has studied all aspects of law and can provide legal advice. An attorney is someone that legally represents someone on their request. An attorney at law is a lawyer that also offers representation and not just legal advice.
Attorney was just one of another terms for lawyer. So it means, attorney and lawyer are the same.
